Beginning in 1917, English archaeologist Howard Carter spent five years searching for the legendary tomb of King Tutankhamen. Funded by English noblemen Lord Carnavon, Carter excavated sites throughout Egypt's Nile valley, but the exact location of Tut's tomb eluded him.
